LEWITT LCT540S Guitar Recording microphone

LEWITT LCT540S as a guitar recording microphone

LEWITT is an up-and-coming microphone manufacturer founded in 2009 in Vienna, the city of music. With the development base in Vienna and their own production facility in Asia with advanced technology, they create high-quality microphones with amazing cost performance.

LEWITT has been highly evaluated for its reliable technology and innovative and unique ideas and has established itself firmly in professional sites and markets around the world just after its establishment. Examples include the LCT 940, which can switch between FET and vacuum tube, and the DTP 640 REX, a bass drum mic that incorporates two diaphragms, a dynamic and a condenser, in a single microphone.

While there are many such unique models, today I would like to introduce the condenser microphone LCT 540 Subzero. (* LCT 540 S notation in Europe and the UK). The noise floor of the LCT 540 is well below the human hearing level. One of the challenges of recording is that fine details and nuances get drowned out by the noise floor, but the LCT 540 overcomes that and picks up more clearly and with more detail than many other mics. Although it is a condenser microphone, the noiseless, clear and delicate sound is pleasant and captures the emotion well. Also, the output is higher than the average other mics, which inevitably minimizes the self-noise of other equipment, and it can be used without raising the sensitivity of the mic preamp too much. With self-noise reduced to an astonishingly low level, this unit supports recording more comfortably.

The 540S is a unidirectional side-address condenser microphone with a 1-inch large diaphragm. The body is zinc die-cast and is durable. With a dynamic range of 132 dB, you can capture everything from loud sounds to subtle nuances. Equipped with a 3-step switching low-cut filter and attenuator, it can be used with various sources. As for the frequency characteristics, the bass is flat. The front panel is equipped with an LED status indicator among others. The LEWITT logo is lit in white, and flashes in red to notify you of clipping.
The noiseless clarity comes to life in the characteristics of the sound. When picking up vocals, even a whispered song can be heard clearly. It’s a very responsive mic. It can convey fine nuances, and the contours of up-tempo songs come out clearly. In piano recordings, there is little colouration in the mid-high range, which is easy to feel hard, and the low range gives a slightly clean impression, allowing you to feel the speed of the sound. Acoustic guitar sound is still natural, and the large diaphragm has an impressive sense of detail. It captures the sound of your stroke in detail, so it’s comfortable, but on the other hand, it can be said that your condition is reflected as it is. You won’t find many microphones in this price range that offer this level of clarity.

The impression of the LEWITT LCT540S is the image of “extraordinarily clear recording”. Recording is possible from low to high, making it suitable for recording electric guitar, vocals, and acoustic instruments. In other words, there is no “no habit”. The fact that there are no habits makes the recorded data vivid and easy to edit, which is another reason for its popularity.
