A brand for top professionals

When John Suhr, the founder of Suhr Guitars, was a high school student living in New Jersey, he studied guitar making under Mr. Robert Benedetto, a luthier of Benedetto, who lived in the neighborhood and was known as the top craftsman of archtop guitars. That was the beginning of John Suhr’s work as a guitar luthier.

After graduating from college, he started working as a repairman at Rudy’s Music Shop, a famous guitar shop in New York. There, John’s skill was recognized, and he began to produce Rudy’s Music Shop’s original brand guitar, Pensaser. Pensasser’s guitars are still highly rated today and are considered the prototype of later Suhr brand guitars.

In the early 90s, he moved his base of operations to Los Angeles, where he worked with Bob Bradshaw of Custom Audio Electronics to design and build amplifiers. The 3+ and 3+SE preamps that John worked on when he was with C.A.E have become preamplifiers used by top studio musicians on the West Coast and loved by guitarists around the world. Also, the OD-100, which was released as an amp head, was originally manufactured by C.A.E, but is now manufactured as part of the Suhr brand.

After that, he moved to Fender Custom Shop as a senior master builder. He ended up having one of the world’s top guitarists on the west coast as a client. In 1997, he left Fender with Steve Smith, who worked as a CNC machine engineer at Fender. John Suhr established his own brand, Suhr Guitar. The company introduced CNC machines from the beginning and accurately carved high-quality wood, and became a top brand with many back orders because of its playability and excellent tone.

Since then, John Suhr continued to actively develop and manufacture new guitar amps and recording tools, making it the best choice for guitarists who care about sound.

We have successfully sampled the PT212, the signature amp cabinet of guitarist “Pete Thorn”. It is designed to be bigger than a general two-shot cabinet, and the cabinet has excellent low-end characteristics and a high-range spread that are unique to two-shot cabinets.
